Born between Bangalore and New York
About Calantha
Two Worlds
Calantha was born between two worlds. In Bangalore, where tradition is not preserved in museums but lived every day — and in New York, where fashion moves at the speed of change.
A Conversation
At the heart of Calantha is a conversation between Indira Somashekar and her daughter, Roopa Pemmaraju — a shared sensibility shaped by heritage, distance, and a deep awareness of what is at risk of being lost.
Karnataka's Voice
India's textile legacy is vast. Within this landscape, Karnataka holds a quieter, yet profoundly significant voice — from the architectural boldness of Ilkal sarees to the restrained luxury of Mysore silk, the intricate narratives of Molakalmuru, and the expressive identity of Lambani embroidery.
Continuity, Not Revival
We began with Ilkal — not as revival, but as continuity. Working closely with artisans, each piece is developed through dialogue, respect, and an uncompromising commitment to craftsmanship.
"This is not production. It is process. A slower rhythm. A considered approach. A belief that luxury lies not in excess, but in meaning."
Philosophy
We believe in less, but better. In craftsmanship over convenience. In process over pace. In preserving what cannot be replicated. Every Calantha piece is created to be worn, kept, and passed on — not just as clothing, but as continuity.
